- Campbell's dwarf hamster is distinguished from the winter white(WW) hamster by its smaller ears and the fur on the stomach of Campbell's dwarf hamster is grey, but it is white on WW. Campbell's dwarf hamsters do not turn white in the winter.
- Unfriendly, have a tendency to bite & nip, are small & quick and hard for kids to handle
- Campbell's dwarf hamster reacts to lower temperatures by constantly exercising and tries to find a sheltered location, unlike WW, which curls up.

- Campbell's dwarfs are sociable and may be kept in colonies.
- Campbell's hamsters have extremely poor eyesight and even worse depth perception.
